Community Outreach Events

I have been confronted recently about the number of people coming to my board gaming events vs. the number of events I make available. I’d like to point out that as I related in a previous blog post, the board gaming hobby is suffering. Not from a lack of potential participants, but from a lack of spaces to gather, but fortunately, the community at large seems to be accommodating by offering free venues. Two points are concerning though. None of theses venues are in traditional gaming spaces and little effort is being made to expand the player base beyond established gamers.

To these ends, Phoenix Games has recently scheduled two new events:

The IMAG members night events: These run every month until June (I think). These are part of the IMAG member nights, but the nights are open to the community at large hey run 6-8 PM on the third Friday of each month at the Fort Myers IMAG located at 2000 Cranford Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33916. We bring family friendly short games (we in the industry might call them fillers). A fun event to bring Kids to.

Everyone plays at the library: This one was just a “What if” situation that turned into something. I (almost accidentally) booked an entire meeting room at the East County Library located at 881 Gunnery Rd N, Lehigh Acres, FL 33971. The event will be on May 4 from 10 AM – 6PM. Light snacks and bottle water will be available for free. BYO games and come out to play.
