Any of my readers that have been paying attention will know that I have been harping on PnP for months. Time for the rubber to hit the road, so to speak. I have chosen a new PnP project and will be sharing the costs of putting itt all together on this blog.
I have chosen the PnP exclusive Dungeon Up! from Titan Games, sold by Philibert.com and designed by Santiago Zanon.
In Dungeon Up! Players embark on an epic adventure where the pursuit of fame and fortune has taken a dangerous turn, the players been captured in the depths of a treacherous dungeon! They will fight to freedom by ascending to the surface, gathering powerful weapons, rare gems, valuable treasures, and magical potions to overcome the monsters that stand in their path. Will they emerge victorious and claim the glory they seek?
Ill be using an Epson ET3850 to print and have calculated my cost per color print on standard paper at about $0.04 B&W runs about $0.01.
- The PnP files themselves cost about $6.03 and were delivered digitally.
- The rulebook was printed booklet in booklet format on 2 sheets of standard paper. since it was printed as duplex to support the booklet printing and is held together by 2 staples, I’ll estimate the cost of production at $0.14.
- The cards were duplex printed on 110lb card stock. I value a 110lb card sheet at double the cost of a standard paper sheet and these were printed duplex, so about $0.12/sheet at 6 sheets, so $0.72
- at this point, I decided to get fancy and heat laminate all the card sheets before cutting. The laminate sheets are pricey at $0.10/each. I used 6 so $0.60
- I found I also needed 4 player markers. You can find these about anywhere. I, personally have a collection of over 200 board games I was able to simply grab one and use some disks from another game. $0.00.

WIP. So far I’ve printed, laminated and cut. next step, bust cut.
For storage, I used a sewing storage box I found at Jo-Ann’s on clearance. I store five PnP games in these. The storage box ran me $5.00 divided by the five games I plan to put in it brings me to $1.00
Comparable game: Munchkin – $26.85 $29.95 (according to amazon. NIS. Non-Deluxe version.
PnP files | $6.03 |
Rulebook | $0.14 |
Cards | $0.72 |
Lamination | $0.60 |
Storage | $1.00 |
Player Markers | $0.00 |
Total | $8.49 |
The cost difference is clear. I saved between $10-$15 simply by printing and cutting my own components. On the other hand, this did require time, planning, and specialized equipment (cutters, laminators, etc.). If you do not enjoy crafting as a hobby, doing this may not be for you, but there are tons of PnP services out there that would gladly do this for you for a nominal fee that would still keep costs low.
